RALPH vs The Contender

Tuesday, December 8, 2009
We go 10 rounds behind the scenes on the Aussie version of the boxing reality TV comp

The blokes from The Contender Australia are restless when we arrive. Luckily we’ve got some issues of RALPH to sort them out with. Once the testosterone levels are flowing, it’s time to get the gloves on.

Before we step in the ring, trainers Billy Hussein and Paul Briggs put us through our paces. We’ve got as much stamina as a stoned koala, but we still agree to spar with Junior “The One” Talipeau. A few carefully placed body blows ensure it’s over pretty quick and, while Junior dances around triumphantly, we go clean ourselves up and get ready to take on “Jungle Boy” Sonni Michael Angelo at Xbox. Turns out we’re shit at virtual boxing, too. But at least it doesn’t hurt as bad losing on the telly.

Despite our heavy defeats, we leave Contender HQ inspired enough to turn on the iPod, put on “Eye of the Tiger” and slowly jog back to the office.
