We speak to Mila Kunis about showing her tough side for Max Payne.

G’day, Mila. You look heaps comfortable handling guns in the movie.
Thank-you. You’re making me so happy by saying that. I have no problem holding a weapon!

Let’s talk about gunplay, because you and Angelina Jolie are the only two women I reckon look legit holding a gun.
High five! I don’t know what to tell you, except that’s a great compliment because that was my number one concern. l felt very empowered and very strong, so I loved it.

Is that what you were going for with your character, Mona Sax?
I wanted to show that a woman can kick arse; that you do not need a man to be strong, at all.

Good point. How did you tap into your inner Mona?
I think everyone has the ability to turn into this person that you don’t even know anymore; someone who will do anything and everything to avenge the death of a loved one.

You don’t need a gun. You could just use a stiletto.
All I need is a flip-flop! I don’t even need a stiletto. Just give me some shoe and I’ll slap you with it. Let me tell you, me and shoes! I throw them across the room.

Honestly, who throws a shoe? Was it hard to play a chick who kicks arse and not come across too, um, butch?
John [Moore, director] wanted her to be a little more feminine so that a woman watching it can relate to her. All I kept saying is women can relate to tough chicks as well as feminine ones.

Looking at you now, you’ve come a long way from your That ’70s Show days.
Oh, it’s like Britney Spears, all the maturing that I did. Amazing!
