James Tomkins

James Tomkins, Oarsome Foursome champ and three-time Olympic rowing Gold medalist talks to RALPH about persistence and pain.

Being a legend
Being a member of the Oarsome Foursome was definitely amazing. It was a lot of fun. You got to do all sorts of things you normally wouldn’t do – and you did it with some of your best mates, so that was great.

Persistence I never expected to be lining up for my sixth Olympics. I love being fit and healthy and active. I enjoy representing the country and going overseas with a group of great guys.

Pain
Rowing hurts a lot. If you’re in a really solid race, ideally the last stroke should be about the last one you can take. It’s total exhaustion. You actually get used to the pain.

How do you make a bikini 87 per cent sexier? Stick Gunnedah glamour Miranda Kerr in it.

I row. I think it's about the most painful activity there is. But somehow we keep doing it anyway --- just love it, I guess.
