Crust a move

Thursday, January 31, 2008

You scored a gig with those mad Crusty Demons. It must be easy for a young bloke to blow his dough getting caught up with trackside babes in the big league.
I’ve definitely had some pro hos and ramp tramps in my day. It’s cool at the start but it gets old. I know a lot of guys who follow that image and blow their coin on chasing chicks and trying to be cool. That can empty the wallet fast.

What’s the shittest thing that’s happened to you over in the States?
Last year I bought a lifted truck. It was sweet and something I’d always dreamed of having – a nice big lifted 4WD. It was a black F150 V8 with a DVD player. It was all plush and someone came and set it on fire. They call it a Car-BQ. I think it was an internal attack from someone in the industry. I was definitely a big threat to the whole scene over there, being the only foreigner in FMX in America. Sooner or later someone was going to give me a hint to leave town and it was like, “F–k ’em, we’re staying here.

That’s pretty low. What about some highs?
Red Bull had a pre-X Games party last year which was just insane. They had Mexican wrestling and 20 hot women. There was a girl with little chandeliers hanging off her nipples and she was spinning them around. One was going clockwise and the other was going anticlockwise. I couldn’t really work it out but it was great.

The Crusty Demons don’t mind wrecking shit and shooting fireworks at each other, hey?
I’ve participated in all of the above. I’ve rolled lots of cars. I front-flipped one of my cars and broke my neck, and I’ve shot fireworks in Europe. We’d go on road trips and drive rental cars with the handbrakes on and then get out wearing our motocross goggles and shoot Roman candle sticks at each other. It’s good fun. This year I’ve decided not to involve myself in antics that can injure me. I’ve grown up a bit.
