Mark Webber

Monday, February 15, 2010
Aussie Formula One driver Mark Webber saves his close shaves for the racetrack, not his face.

You've lived in the UK for over a decade. Why leave Australia for that shithole?
Europe is where you need to be if you want to be in the top level of the sport. The UK is home for me but I’m totally Australian and love representing Australia.

What would you be doing if you weren’t in F1?
I’d probably still be in the Queanbeyan region [near the NSW/ACT border], helping out at my dad’s petrol station or involved in something mechanical.

Are you a fan of having sex on race day?
Depends what’s happened during the week. There’s no real routine there. I just go with the flow.

When you nailed the German Grand Prix last year, you became the first Aussie to win an F1 race in almost 30 years. What was that like?
It was an incredible day and a massive relief knowing I could win at the top level. To back up in Brazil and have eight podiums overall, it was a pretty solid year. We had a sensational party in December. Sebastian [Vettel, his teammate] drove a car through someone’s house. I’d had leg surgery and was on crutches, so I couldn’t get too involved in the party but everyone else found it pretty tidy.

What do you think about during a race?
The races are about 300 k’s long but when you operate at this level, the track and the tyres and the car are constantly changing. So we’re always adapting and always thinking.

Do you ever have crashing nightmares?
No. I’ve a few nightmares about shit preparation and being late for a race. It’s never bloody happened but there’s been some where I’m in a massive panic and really disorganised.

yes he can. he's fast. he can dominate and win races. and he's in the best car. it's just down to how he manages the pressure (vettel is awesome), and a little bit of luck.
He is, and for some time has been one of the most capable drivers in the F1 field. Now that he has a decent car and team, and he knows how to win, he is going to be a contender.
NO,because he isnt hungry enough,I hope ime proved wrong.
Absolutely He has won GPs if the car and team are ok there is no dought at all
I doubt that he can win the championship but he is a chance to finish in the top 5.
To answer the question allow me to paraphrase a quote by Mr. M. Schumacher who said of Mark Webber, "Given the right equipment I would rate Mark as being my main competition and capable of winning drivers championships."
Of course Webber can be F1 world champ. Gunna be a real hard slog tho, Vettel, Hamilton, Button, Alonso and a guy called Schumacher will all be up there. Good start to the season is needed by Mark as last year Brawn proved too strong early. Auzzie Webber should be cooking this year.
This is Mark's year, he has a great team & car. All Australians are backing him for a win!
