Queensland town tries to break world's largest pub crawl

Monday, May 4, 2009
Maryborough in Queensland is staging its fifth attempt to break the Guinness world record for the largest ever pub crawl.

Last year the country town took the honour with 3000 drinkers.

To be eligible, drinkers are required to have at least one drink – alcoholic or non-alcoholic – in at least 10 of the participating pubs and get the official pub crawl card stamped at each watering hole.

This year’s event on the Queen’s birthday weekend features beer-and-food matching sessions. Hope they’ve alerted the town’s kebab shops.

What’s the best pub crawl you have ever been on?

2008 crawl saw 7 Continents, 12 Countries, 49 Cities, 152 Venues share in an experience that changed lives! It was epic, and it's back again this year! http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=46008014939#!/event.php?eid=109416562426919&ref=ts
Without a doubt the Port Road Pub Crawl. We caught the train down to Exeter, visited several pubs on the far side before crossing the bridge into Port Adelaide, where we visited about 10 pubs before starting up the Port Road. We got as far as the Woodville (pub 22?) before heading for Felafel, and finished it off the following week, ending somewhere in Hindley Street. If we had the stamina we would have pressed up Rundle Street to the Stag too.
Two of my friends and I did a pub crawl following a Melbourne tram line a while ago - We followed the East Preston tram line from the start of the line at Tyler St. and Plenty Rd. East Preston into the City of Melbourne. We visited every pub on the line at the time and I think we had a pot of beer at 37 pubs. Have a great day and a beer with me. Regards - WOOSH
Many people in Maryboroughd don't consider this crawl an "honour. It has just attracted a bunch of boozers and anti-socials into town with resulting increasing crime, and loud "music" which often keeps thousands of peace-loving residents unable to get any sleep at night. On top of this, Maryborough is the unofficial barking dog capital of Australia, and we are now bothered with small aircraft buzzing around all day long.
Man..., I wish I lived in Queensland. I'd just love to take part.
I've been an avid participator of the last 3 x Guiness attempts at the Worlds Greatest Pub Crawl in Maryborough Qld. "Love It!" The atmosphere is 'awesome' with most crawlees dressed in costume. The pubs are starting to get their act together in serving the large crowds & the public transport between the outer lying pubs is efficient. I recommend to all Australians, 'dress-up, bring a friend & join the foray - we need to kick the Poms butts & continue this tradition'. (I have been a non-drinker for my last 2 x crawls & pee-my pants at the hijinks & crowds. Cheers -)
Oi we are so not a country town. We are officially a city thank you! Actually going to the pub is about the only thing to do around here lol I don't think we even have a kebab place........oh hang on, yes we do but it probably won't be open! Rick's Pies will get a work out if they are open, as will Maccas.
So far the 2008 Maryborough "worlds greatest pub crawl" has been the best I've been in. So much so, I am participating in the 2009 crawl.
I went on the Plan B pub crawl in Surfers a couple of years ago. Me and my mates had such a good time that we went a second time later in the week. Will definately be doing it again next time we visit.
