Boys drunk on restaurant water

Boys drunk on restaurant water

Monday, December 1, 2008
A Chinese bloke is fuming after a restaurant got his two young boys drunk by serving them booze instead of mineral water.

Dopey waiters from a upmarket restaurant in Qingdao, on the east coast of China mistakenly gave the 10 and 12-year-old boys, a bottle of mineral water containing clear alcohol.

The father said the waiters helped the boys to fill their glasses with 'water' and his sons then gulped it down.

"By the end of the meal, we noticed the boys were getting short of breath, and having blurred vision. And they smelled strongly of alcohol," says Mr Sun as reported in the Bandao City Daily.

It turned out the water bottle had been filled with left over alcohol, which had been collected by waiters as they cleared tables.

Their angry father is threatening to sue the restaurant after the manager offered a discount and a free cabbage.

Maybe the restaurant should offer the father a free bottle of mineral water as well.

What is the appropriate compensation for the father? Leave your comment below.

I wonder how many times the kids asked to go to the toilet, most probably to sneak a durrey or two, at least the smell would have been covered by the apparent smell of alcohol.
Aww its not fair when people in Australia complain about things like this we don't get free cabbages i feel slightly ripped off. cabbages are expensive you know.
Collecting left over alcohol. . . for what? to re-use? I would also be concerned about the food and how many times a particular piece of meat has been recycled before it finally gets consumed.... waste not want not
Who cares if the kids got drunk. If the kids wake up with a hangover they'll be less likely to drink again. It's a good lesson for them. And why would a father turn down a free meal and a cabbage the cabbage alone makes it a good offer lol.
the restuarant should be closed down. that is 100% unacceptable.
The boys would have known it wasn't mineral water, so they should have said something. People make mistakes, if you know something is wrong you should speak up. Also if the adults were WITH the kids at the time then they would have smelt it in the glass before on the kids breath etc so THEY could have spoken up...but then you don't get free stuff or publicity if you kindly point out someones mistake and ask them to fix it! If the father wasn't there at the time then maybe compensate with free meal, but still punish the kids for dishonesty!
Free cabbage?
The appropriate compensation in $0 (or whatever the Chinese currency is)- as no one was killed or seriously injured. Ok, so the restuarant did the wrong thing- but people should stop sueing for damages everytime something goes wrong. The boys will be fine- maybe a small hangover the next day- but they'll get over it
LOL who cares? the kids are probably drinking when their parents aren't around anyway. at least they were in a reasonably safe environment!
How could you pass up a free cabbage?
