Thief meets his match with 140kg mastiff
Tuesday, June 10, 2008
A Pommie thief is lucky to be alive after being attacked by a 140kg English mastiff family pet.
It seemed the burglar picked the worst house in the Berwickshire County as the three-year-old whopper, named Cromwell pounced on the intruder in the backyard.
Owner George Watson, 43, heard a "scream, a roar and a commotion" from the back garden, the UK’s
The Daily Mail
reported.
He saw the intruder zooming off down the driveway in his van, and the only evidence left was a torn T-shirt.
Cromwell, known as a gentle giant, tore the shirt from the thief's back to stop him stealing the family's lawnmower, which had been taken from the shed and left by the gate.
Mastiffs are the heaviest dogs in the world and although they’re bred as guard dogs, they’re good with children, rarely bark and tend to defend rather than attack.
Time to reward Cromwell with a couple pints of
dog beer
.
If you had a mastiff, would you let your dog attack the burglar to a inch of his life? Leave your comment below.

Good on him, just doin his job i know my Rottweiler would be the same. The owners should be very proud
Let the pooch have some fun. Any lowlife mongrel who would steal the hard earned efforts of others deserves what they get. I once had a Red Cattle Dog that did just the same thing only he ripped the leg off the owners tracksuit and just to prove just how stupid these halfwits are the owner had the hide to wear the same tracksuit past my house the next day, and when I saw him he was politley asked to come on back and play. I don't know if it was the thought of 35 kilos of cattle dog or me with the pick handle but he declined and even packed up the family and left the area. Yes he was a neighbour. I hope Cromwell got a nice thighbone to chew on.
yeah i tottaly agree plus i have a german shepard he kicks *** to
sucked in to him the dog should of bit its head of trying to steal a lawnmower from someone povo ***
are you kidding ??? what a no-brainer question , i'd pull up a deckchair and gladly watch my dog rip some filthy burgler maggot to pieces , do the crime suffer this time
theives that try to break into peoples houses or sheds deserve all they get if pounce on by a dog ,theives do the crime then they pay what ever way they get punish by dog or by law
yes i would thats the reason i bought my mastiff, if your stupid enough to try and rob someone then u deserve to get attacked, in saying that there as far as i know ( i have done little bit of research on the subject being a mastiff owner myself)not been an actual repost of an "attack" as such, generally they will knock the offender down and hold them rather then break skin. they are a large sooky lovable animal but need a firm hand.
If somebody is as selfish and stupid to steal from another person then they deserve to be attacked by a dog, if they weren't in a place they shouldn't be then they have nothing to worry about. Finally KARMA bit some ***
Cromwell did exactly what he should have. I have a St Bernard. If someone broke into my house I would reward my companion with everything he wanted if he caught and attacked a burglar.
I do have a Mastiff and she is very gentle and loving, but treats strangers with caution. If anyone came into my yard or house they deserve all they get from a dog defending its property and owners
