Fart tax on cattle

Wednesday, May 14, 2008
Estonian cattle farmers have been whacked by the government with a fart tax to compensate for the methane gas produced by cows.

It is believed that cattle are responsible for up to 25 percent of gas emissions in Estonia, reports Ananova.com.

Methane gas is said to contribute to global warming and air pollution. A single cow produces approximately 350 litres of methane and 1500 litres of carbon dioxide per day from farting and burping.

Local farmers are fuming and opposition politicians have slammed the tax. A spokesman for the opposition, People's Union of Estonia, claims it's unprecedented in any EU country.

Soon there will a fart tax on baked beans!

Every time I go to the shops my girlfriend gets upset if I don't bring back sweets. So now I just automatically bring some home -- I call it The Chocolate Tax.
