Crying sumo baby contest

Tuesday, April 29, 2008

There may be weird and wacky contests around the world, such as cow-dung throwing or wife-carrying contests, but the crying sumo contest for babies in Japan undeniably tops the list.

The competition, which brought together pairs of babies to see who could cry first or loudest, was held at Tokyo's Sensoji Temple, as reported by Mainichi Daily News.

Infants are held up by wannabe sumo wrestlers in a ring and the baby who cries first is the winner. If both babies cry, then the one that cries loudest, wins.

Last year, 84 newborns cried their eyes out at the temple. The crying sumo baby contest is held to pray for the infant's health.

Big Brother contestants should probably compete in this contest after being evicted from the house.
