Avatar director James Cameron

Tuesday, January 12, 2010
It's been 12 years since Titanic. Now director James Cameron makes up for it with 3D sci-fi epic Avatar.

What's Avatar about, then?
A marine opts to exist on an alien planet as a blue, 10ft-tall, genetically engineered biological body, controlled by his human mind.

What will blow us away in Avatar?
There's the mother of all battles. It's aerial, it's cavalry, it's infantry, it's mech-infantry, it's hand-to-hand. It's the biggest thing I've ever done.

The lead female alien is all CGI, but she's based on actress Zoe Saldana. Zoe makes a pretty hot alien.
The more alien we made her in the design phase we kept asking ourselves, the crude version is: "Would you want to do her?” Our crew of artists would go, "No, take the gills out."

Why did you give Aussie Sam Worthington the gig?
He had something I hadn't seen in a guy of that age – a sense of power in voice and demeanour. Nobody knew him here, so the studio was nervous. To their credit they saw what I saw.

Avatar would have to be the best movie ever, but I think when Halo The Movie comes it, it will challenge it. And from what I've heard, there is Chinese fellow trying to sue James Cameron because he alledgedly plagiarised a book he made that has a similar story line to the book, I say, To late mate, don't bother trying to sue James Cameron when he hasn't done anything wrong.
If Avatar was this good, I wonder about "Battle Attila Angel"?
Avatar will set the bench mark for movies to come and has taken CG effects to a whole new level. To see it in 3D is icing on a very enjoyable cake and you will be sitting in your local cinema totally mesmerised over what is happening before you. It isn't just the CG effects that carry Avatar, the story is timeless of a primitive race in touch with their environment, fighting for their existence against a mining company wanting them moved out at all costs and by any means. This is happening now, in the Amazon, indonesia where indigenous tribes are being forced out of their homelands and Avatar carries a very powerful environment message. You end up barracking for the natives and Sam Worthington's Avatar character as they battle the might of a very powerful technical force. Forget about the $232M+ budget, just sit back and enjoy the ride. You won't be disappointed.
I was impressed with this movie and all the fine details made up for the somewhat patchy story,(which really didn't matter that much anyway) this film is hopefully a small snippet of what of the promise of things come for the future of cinema. Tis good to see more Australians being used in the international film industry too, hopefully James won't foul it up with his next feature- if there is another in the pipes.
Yes it`s obvious, it will be the film to make the most money in 2010. It`s the best film ive seen in ten years for sure. It`s up there with the great milestones of the past, ET, StarWars ect. For me it`s was like a drug free trip to a very cool head space..
The movie was AWSOME I've watched it like five times. My fav bit was when jake sully's avatar becomes arook-mak-toe the rider of the big red bird thing, and how he gathers all the warriors from all the nations, to go to war.
Avatar will be the most successful film for the year, by a country mile. The only thing that will challenge it over the next 5 years will be Avatar 2. Bring it.
Zoe did make a pretty hot alien. I was waiting for the alien-on-alien love scene.
I have seen Avatar twice now. Once in standard mode and once in 3D and to tell you the truth i prefer the standard mode with my eyes but its still the most fantastic film i've seen since Titanic which i saw eight times. I plan on seeing Avatar many more times. The colours, and the fact that all the animals and plant life are so realistic blows me away and i like the subtle Indian comparison.
It was *** so no
