01 Scott Sattler’s try saver
In an attempt to outdo his old man, Souths legend John Sattler, the Panthers lock chased down Roosters’ winger Todd Byrne in the 2003 GF to pull off the greatest try-saving tackle in finals history.
02 Is that “Gold”?
We can’t decide whether Paul “The Chief” Harrogan’s cover of Spandau Ballet’s “Gold” was funny or not. Still causes the odd trickle of blood from our ears.
03 Mud men
In 1963, when Dragon Norm Provan and Magpie Arthur Summons embraced after the muddiest final ever, they didn’t realise the famous “Gladiators” image would be immortalised in bronze for the NRL trophy. Should’ve claimed copyright.
04 How Chicka rolls
John “Chicka” Ferguson’s try in ’89 was the highlight of one of the greatest GFs ever. With seconds left, he dodged four Balmain defenders to send the game into extra-time, breaking the Tigers’ resolve.
05 Lozza’s chair
Laurie Daley was a great, but he sucks at musical chairs. When Gus Gould shotgunned Daley’s sideline seat during a 2004 Origin match, the Blues coach was left red-faced, improvising a chair on the sideline. Can’t mime to save his life, either.

06 Wayne Harmes’ miracle punch
In the dying seconds of the 1979 Blues vs ’Pies GF, Harmes dived and knocked back the pill to set up the Blues’ winning goal before it crossed the boundary. Or did it? Still causes pub fights in Melbourne.
07 Aker’s handstand
Jason Akermanis first pulled out his victory handstand at the Brisbane Lions. Then he went to the Bulldogs and they banned it for being too “individual”. Fun blokes, the Bulldogs.
08 Angry butchers “Bound for Glory”
Top bloke, but Angry Anderson’s lap in a crapped-out Batmobile as part of the pre-game entertainment for the 1991 Hawks vs Eagles Grand Final definitely wasn’t a career highlight. Our ears are still crying.
09 “Jesaulenko! You beauty!”
Dunno what we’re on about? YouTube the Carlton great’s speccy mark in the 1970 GF against Collingwood to see why it’s a highlights-reel favourite.
10 Leigh “Lethal” Matthews breaks a post
When the Hawks legend ran into and broke a behind post in 1982, it battered both him and a boundary umpire and kicked off his rep as a bloke who breaks stuff.
