Pushie turns to shove when 500 nutjobs tackle a downhill snow marathon.
Most
RALPH staff would probably struggle to nail a 36km
marathon in a car. But throw in a bloody great big mountain, snow, freezing temperatures, sheer cliffs and 500 saddle-
psychos hurtling down the course at 80km/h on pushies, and you're got the most dangerous alpine pastime since naked Yeti wrestling.
Now in its 14th year of mayhem, the Megavalanche makes the
Tour de France look like a Sunday arvo park peddle. Starting at a a 3300m elevation in the French resort of Alpe d'Huez, the course careers along glacial ice, rock-studded snow, 45° slopes and only 45 per cent of competitors actually make it that far.
