Shane Crawford consults his crystal ball

Tuesday, March 31, 2009
The Footy Show fella Shane Crawford consults his crystal ball for the 2009 AFL season.

Who'll slam who to take the flag this season?
Hawthorn will beat Geelong again, but not by as much because I’m not playing any more.

Who’ll be the wooden spooners?
West Coast.

What will the top eight teams be at the end of the regular season?
Hawthorn, Geelong, Adelaide, Port Adelaide, Richmond, Western Bulldogs, St Kilda, Kangaroos.

Which player will kick the most goals?
Jarryd Roughead will become the first Fanta-pants to win the Coleman Medal.

Most improved team?
Richmond.

Bolters for the All-Australian team?
Cyril Rioli. What we saw in the grand final last year was just the beginning.

The year's biggest disappointment will be...
Sam Newman being on The Footy Show again. I only retired and joined The Footy Show fulltime because I thought he was going to retire too.

Your tip for Rookie of the year?
Jack "Killer" Watts – Melbourne.

Who'll win the Brownlow?
Gary Ablett – easily. It takes one to know one.

The toughest player this season will be?
Campbell Brown. He eats metal and nails and washes them down with broken light bulbs.

Player likely to miss most of the season through injury?
Jonathan Brown. He plays with no fear.

Player most likely to start some biff?
Barry Hall. Just don’t tell him I said that.

Player most likely to be on the receiving end?
Matthew Richardson. Even at 48, it's the only way to slow the old man down.

Who would you like to see sing the national anthem at the grand final?
Whoever wins the Brownlow Medal.

What if he’s playing in the final?
Then the bloke who comes second should sing it. Anyone but Russell Robertson.

What two teams do you think will play each other in the Grand Final? Leave your comments below.

Shane, it is fitting that you will be on the Footy Show with Sam Newman again, also a ***. I am glad you have retired, but when Geelong win the flag over Hawthorn this year, it won't be because you aren't there. Luckily, you will have more time off to work on your highlights and perhaps pen another thrilling biography! Call it "Shane's World", or "The World According to Crawfy" and co-author it with Mark Holden, with a foreword by Kyle Sandilands.
