Do you hear everything your next-door neighbours do?
The first night I moved in I did hear someone in the unit below making love, and I turned the aircon up and put some music up. There’s also a couple next door who are a little fiery, and sometimes you can’t help but listen in.

Passionate people in Cairns, eh?
Some people get a little bit passionate, either loving or hating – especially the backpackers who aren’t used to the heat. I love summer here, though, and I get out to the reef a lot, free of charge because of my job.

What sort of job gets you to the Great Barrier Reef for free?
I work at a backpackers and sell tours and things like that. I’m also a dancer – I’m a Coyote Ugly girl at one of the pubs here.

Um, yes. That’s good. Tell us about it.
There are three of us and we put on a show very similar to the Coyote Ugly movie. We do a dance in the chaps and everything, we get people to get up and dance with us, and there are prizes for the best dancers. People do anything for a bar tab.

Tell me if my maths is out, but backpackers plus booze equals nudity, yes?
Oh yes, we’ve had a fair bit of nudity. Girls don’t mind getting their tops off if they get something for free. A lot of guys pull their pants down and get it out. I hate to say it, but it’s always the dude with the littlest fella, and you’re just thinking, “Oh, put it away, that’s nothing to be proud of. You’re not impressing the girls with that.”

When girls backpack, do they pack everything but their inhibitions?
Definitely. If you do something naughty, you feel bad the next day if you’re home, but overseas, you can just move along. When you know no-one, you can do anything – things you would never have imagined doing.

Tells us something you did overseas that’ll shock us.
No, this is tricky. I was in Edinburgh, but I really can’t. I was experimenting... no, I just can’t say. It’s just too naughty. I can’t.

Come on, just tell me and I won’t put it in the magazine.
It’s just too naughty. No-one knows I have a naughty side. I come across as a girl next door and I have a reputation to uphold.
