How did you get yourself noticed at the auditions?
I was just myself. I’m pretty crazy sometimes and I think that’s what they saw. I tried to hide the whole virgin thing because I thought if they find out about it, I’m out. In the end, they asked all sorts of questions and I was trying to avoid it, but [the interviewer] picked up the vibe and asked me straight out whether I was a virgin. I was like, dammit, I can’t lie!
You were considered a favourite to win at one stage. Did it shit you that you were nominated and evicted basically because you were messy?
Well, I’m messy with clothes but not with hygiene. I’m very, very clean. But with clothes, I’ll just leave a trail… so I can find my way back (laughs).
Do you just pretend to be dumb and blonde to fool people?
Me? Is that how it came across? I don’t want to let on that I’m smart. Everyone seems to open up to me. Because if someone’s above you or someone seems really smart, I sometimes shut down, and I don’t want to do that to other people… I stick to using simple words or whatever, but sometimes it comes out anyway.
We’ve heard about you writing ‘L’ and ‘R’ on your hands before your driving test, what other funny Katie stories were created in the house?
Did you guys hear that? Bugger! Camilla goes to me one day, “One day you’re going to grow up and be me more like me with guys and stuff.” She was dressed in a lobster suit at the time. So I said, “What, you mean loud and dressed like a lobster?”
Some housemates say they’re aware of the cameras all the time and others aren’t. What about you?
Yeah, I was aware of them the whole time, but I just didn’t care.
What about after a few drinks?
Then I
really didn’t care. I think I went into the diary room in just my bra once and said, “Hey Big Bruvva, canwehavesomemore drinks, pleash?” “Katie, no, have a glass of water before you go to bed!”
Do you regret anything you did in the house?
No, not at all. I had so much fun. Every day was beaut, except towards the end when I was getting over it.
Does your mum have any regrets about anything you did in the
house?
Ah, I think she might. She saw the rewards room [episode]. I haven’t seen it yet and I don’t think I want to.
It was full-on.

How have your friends reacted since you’ve been out?
They’re pretty proud of me. Big Brother can portray you however they want but because I was being myself it was hard for them to edit me a certain way. Of course there’s some scenes like, argghhhh, the rewards room… Even though I didn’t care about the cameras, all my friends bring it up and it’s like, shut up! I’ll get a career in porn, they reckon.
When you went in, which of the guys were you attracted to first?
I was attracted to John initially because I’m a real person for personality… but I didn’t want to hook up with anyone because I knew I’m wasn’t good [with relationships] on the outside and I thought, hell no do I want to go through this on the inside with everyone watching. And then even though I thought Jamie was hot and we were laying in the same bed, I was thinking, I’m never going to get with this guy, ever. It took a bit for me to get with him and then hang out 24/7. After that, I thought, dammit, he wins.
Do you always go for the good-looking guy?
I’ve just started getting good-looking guys with alright personalities. Look at John, he’s not the buffest guy but has personality, so I was leaning towards him at the start. But then I saw Jamie’s personality and fell in love.
You kept saying you hadn’t had much luck with guys before – were you just a bad judge of character?
I’ve gone out with good-looking guys and after a while I’m like, screw this, they’re bad for me, so then I went just for guys with personality and they turned out to be dicks as well! (Laughs) This time, I just thought I’m going to stick with the one I really like.
You realise you turned Jamie into one of the most sexually frustrated men on the planet, don’t you?
It was vice versa as well! My god! He had to release a few times. I was just laying there going, “Yep”.
You’ve said you don’t mind the odd porno – do you have a
collection?
I did for a little bit. But I don’t know where they went, and I don’t exactly want to go and ask ma… so I didn’t get the urge after that. But if I see that one’s on telly or something I’ll watch it, I don’t care. I’m not offended at all by them.
You seemed insecure about your looks at times around the other girls. Which of the BB chicks did you find most attractive?
I thought Anna and Danielle were stunning, and I also got along with them the best. I wasn’t very confident at the start but then, probably because of [what happened with] Jamie, I ended up putting on weight, still walked around in my bikinis, had the biggest outbreak of pimples, regrowth, and just didn’t care in the end.
What did you have they didn’t?
Mad sense of humour. Hey, look at me and my big head. I can laugh at anything, especially myself. Even today on the radio they were calling me “Bugsy” because of my big teeth. I said yeah, even if they snapped in half I’d have regular-sized teeth.
Are you prepared for being recognised everywhere?
I was going to the airport in Sydney and we ran into all the soccer fans for the World Cup. They realised it was me and I thought, here we go, there’ll be one or two waves but they ended up rocking the car, breaking off the side mirror and trying to open the doors. I was almost crying. I didn’t think BB would be this big. I’m very flattered but my god, it’s overwhelming.
